Project Update – January 2025
In January 2025, we reached out to Kymin View Primary School for an update on their project.  Here’s what project lead, Dan Lowe, had to say …

“We are incredibly grateful for your support, which has enabled us to invest in virtual reality headsets designed for teaching and learning through Class VR.

Since the purchase and implementation of the VR headsets, we have observed significant engagement and enthusiasm among our pupils. The headsets can provide over 3,000 immersive experiences, allowing students to explore a wide range of simulations. We have used the headsets across all our classes, from pupils in Reception to Year 6. These include everyday activities such as using public transport, crossing the road and visiting the beach, as well as extraordinary opportunities to visit famous landmarks around the world, walk through fairytale settings, and explore planets in the solar system. Just this week, the children have been exploring what happens to food when we eat it by taking a journey through the digestive system, which they loved!

The impact on our students has been fantastic. They are not only enjoying these experiences but also gaining valuable insights and knowledge that enhance their learning. The VR headsets have proven to be an effective tool in making education more interactive and enjoyable for all learners, no matter their background or ability.”

What is the project?

Dan Lowe, Assistant Headteacher at Kymin View Primary School, Newport, South Wales, applied for support to purchase virtual reality headsets designed for teaching and learning through virtual reality. The software provided alongside the headsets includes simulations of everyday experiences such as using public transport or visiting the beach, as well as eye-opening opportunities for learners to visit famous landmarks around the world, walk through fairy tale settings or explore planets in the solar system.

How will learners benefit?

The project is designed to increase learners’ experiences of the world so that they can link their learning to those experiences and become better engaged and motivated. To measure impact on engagement the school is using learner surveys before and after implementation. Improved standards in oracy and writing will be measured through assessment of samples of writing and discussion.

Why was it funded?

The trustees were particularly keen to fund this bid because its innovative nature and because of the research into the technology that Dan had completed and included in the application.
