What is the project?

Sarah Glover is the Lead Teacher for Vulnerable Students at The de Ferrers Academy, Burton on Trent: and she submitted a bid to fund ASDAN short courses in addition to other qualifications already offered at the school for target groups of learners.  The funding will allow the school to upgrade their ASDAN membership, carry out staff training and provide candidate booklets.

How will learners benefit?

The learners would complete the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CPE) alongside other qualifications.  The units in CPE covered include introduction to improving own learning and performance and planning and giving an oral presentation.  As well as providing learners with small steps of success to build self-esteem and confidence, the cross-curricular skills will support with other GCSE qualifications such as the speaking aspect of GCSE English.

Why was it funded?

Research into the CPE has shown that successful participation in this course helps learners to attain more highly in a range of other subjects.  The trustees were pleased to read about the way this project was planned as a pilot and that there was capacity to expand and sustain the qualification in the future.  Sarah emphasised in her bid the positive impact this would have on learners in the school currently.
